On The Daily Show tonight, Sen. Rand Paul (R Kentucky) said that the Wall Street bankers who got 100s of millions in bonuses would not have gotten those bonuses had it not been for government intervention. Yeah right senator! Our newspapers and tv news media have only been full of news for the last 15 years about private corporate CEO's and other top execs getting big fat bonuses while their companies floundered or when bankrupt & their employees were forced to take pay cuts. If one follows the logic of Rand's particular brand of historical revisionism, the federal government force them to take those bonuses. Now if we are to believe the "Honorable" (what a laugh. what honor is there in being a politican engaging in a propaganda campaign for the benefit of himself and his political bosses?) Mr. Paul, the U.S. Government must have forced the companies of these executives to take their bonuses just like he said tonight that the government is the reason the Wall Street bankers who took our financial system to total collapse got theirs! All I got to say about Mr. Rand and his laughable attempts to revise history is: Kentucky voted him but now the rest of us have to deal with his lying bullshit
My Bias: All institutions, forms of government work on paper, but none work in practice because then people have to be involved with our greed, avarice, sloth & general lack of any concept of meaningful ethics and penchant for letting others do our thinking & make our choices. So it's never the idea that's wrong or faulty, it's us.
