What to do about the mass shootings is F***ing common sense.
#1 WE KNOW that banning semi-automatic weapons altogether works because Great Britain, after just 1 one mass shooting, in a school in 1996, outlawed all handguns and all semi-automatic weapons and has no mass shootings since.
#2 But, the United States is unique, having the 2nd Amendment, which I support because I am an avid gun owner/user. I particularly enjoy, for sporting use, semi-automatic military, assault-style weapons which I take to the ranges and target practicing with.
However, I do empathize with all the victims and their families. I even understand why they are calling for an outright ban of so-called assault rifles. I don't agree, but I do understand THE YOUNG VICTIMS' incredibly impassioned pleas to do so.
One thing I don't do: I don't belittle them & call them "Communists" like NRA CEO Wayne Lapeirre has done.
So which would you choose? 100s more lives lost or our precious, special, one of a kind, unique, 2nd Amendment?
Wait, I may have stated that wrong. That's NRA PC speak. I do have an NRA membership and tend to get confused about the use of politically correct language I'm supposed to use.
Before joining the NRA I would have naturally, without thinking, written this in Liberal PC speak thusly "so which do we choose? 100s more precious, special, unique human lives lost or the 2nd Amendment?"
Whatever. The bottom line is that we seem to have quite a conundrum on our hands. I mean, Which do we choose? Which is more important, a special precious one-of-a-kind amendment or 100s special, precious, unique daughters, sons, husbands, wives, partners, teachers, grandchildren, emergency responders, fathers mothers, grand parents, brothers, sisters lost?
It's a veritable Catch 22, a "damned if we do damned if we don't" situation.
But only if we keep fearfully insisting that our gun rights are far more precious than are the daughters, sons, mothers and fathers of this country.
Because unlike the poor, Underprivileged Politicians on both sides of the isle, as well as the vast majority of NRA members, I'm proud to say, that I am Blessed & Fortunate to have been the beneficiary of a Proper Upbringing, which gave me an Amazing Ability to distinguish Right From Wrong (the right thing is always the hardest) and how to tell the difference between lazy, good-for-nothing huckster, sexually abusive politicians blowing smoke up my arse for my vote (virtually all of them) and decent, hard working family people in this country practically every week Getting Shot To Death in their schools, movie theaters, concerts, homes, work places etc. by various AR15 wielding psychopaths, while the rest of us sit back and repeat each time "Now Is Not The Time" TO GET OFF OUR ARSES & DO A DAMN THING ABOUT IT.
So the solution I suggest is, you guessed it, GET OFF our lazy arses and DO SOMETHING! In fact here is one of those tired overworked, but apt phrases, from my ubringing, courtesy my maternal grandmother, who said this at least once a day: "Can't Never Could Do Anything."
Somebody said long ago that we invented government to protect ourselves against one another so we can get along & prosper together because we basically suck and have primordial urges to control and subjugate our fellow man (wait I added that last part). The mass shootings are the grossest example of that very human trait. Therefore when we are having school shootings EVERY 60 Hours since Jan. 1, that's the best indication I know of that our government IS NOT DOING IT'S JOB.
So politicians and businessmen, quit counting your money and days to the next election, get your heads out of Corporate America's Arses and AND DO (your jobs) SOMETHING about this horrible problem.
Sure, the solution isn't as easy as it is in other countries because we have the 2nd amendment. But it's only impossible if we keep doing what we are doing now, NOTHING.
We put people on the moon when we had "super computers" less powerful than our cell phones! We now have a camera sensor that can detect ONE photon of light. We have a quantum computer that can theoretically, in the near future, instantaneously crack ANY encryption. So if we accomplished these feats, don't tell me we can't stop or at least substantially reduce this murderous mayhem AND keep our gun rights.
I mean for F*** sake, We even put a Baboon In The White House! One thing for certain is that the people who achieved all these miraculous things never uttered the immortal words of our Chimpanzee in Chief "The solution to a bad guy with a gun is to give the teachers guns" and then what? Give the all cops textbooks and have them teach?
We certainly can, if we actually try, enact reasonable laws that respect our unique rights, doesn't involve our Teachers Going Commando AND better protects people in this country from this insanely deadly violence.
But we can do so ONLY IF WE GET OFF OUR SELFISH, Hateful, Stupid ARSES & ACT like the majority of us had a proper upbringing, by first showing a modicum of compassion for our fellow man.
Once we do that, then we may even be ready to experiment with actually thinking for ourselves instead of leaving it to the wholly owned corporate subsidiary called U.S CONGRESS Inc. & its Opinion Shapers at CNN, CBS, NBC, ABC & FOX pretending to be journalists.
But not if we stay in the NRA 's "Can't Never Could Do Anything" parade of name calling and vilification of mass shooting victims.
