Ffirst, these are the details of services sought and rendered on my new OEM G17 barrel for my G17 pistol: shorten barrel by 5/8 inch; cut stock OEM glock ports in barrel; crown muzzle. Total cost not including $180 barrel: $165.
My critique below of SPA's service below is in the form of an email I just sent to the proprietor:
"I'm not happy with my order because you sold me extra services that i did not need under false pretense, namely the barrel crowning. I did not know what it was and now that I see it, I see that it actually SIGNIFICANTLY SHORTENS the interior working surface of the barrel about an 1/8" under the length I sought! But primarily, now that I see what it is, i know for sure that I didn't need it and should not have paid for and gotten it because MY STOCK BARREL DOESN'T HAVE IT! So This crowning is yet another appearance gimmick hyde up to make money and I don't appreciate it, Like so many overpriced aftermarket gimmicks out there for Glock. If crowning had anything to do with performance and accuracy, as you claimed, GLOCK would do it on their barrels. This reminds me of the overpriced bullshit gimmick on the internet for Glocks I all ready got stuck with: an Apex trigger and connector for over $100 which is touted all over the internet as reliable and smoother than the Glock 4.5 stock trigger assy. What the internet didn't reveal before I bought the Apex trigger is that there is an OEM minus connector that does the same exact thing and is Glock reliable for a fraction of the price of the Apex junk. Oh the Apex was beautiful and did exactly what it said (so has the Glock minus connector without wearing out and failing) WHILE IT LASTED (maybe 1000 pulls before beginning to deteriorate & wearing out within the next 1000 pulls all together and becoming nonfunctional. ONLY after that experience did I start seeing on the internet that Glock owners should avoid ALL aftermarket parts, including the most expensive barrels and triggers, all brands in fact because NO aftermarket parts for Glock are as reliable as OEM ones. And I will be putting this very critique in my blog because once again I have paid extra money for unnecessary snake oil for my G17"
Update: Southwest Precision Arms offered to and provided a $30 refund for the barrel crowning, they said, since I was not happy with it.
