This lens is more useful than ever in front of a super high resolution Nikon DSLR screen that let's me focus, quite frankly, most often, faster than the af can do it even on my D800 which is just 1 generation behind the current models (I can't afford "latest model" anything)
And on my D800, 1 of only 2 automatic features I use frequently (when i am not in a hurry) is the auto focus. When in mf, my Digital camera, with the screen in back is the easiest to use , compared to using mf on my film Nikon cameras. I find it best to just to be able to look down at all the setting and be sure that is what the camera will do rather than select any of the other auto features and then try to guess what the camera will do in the next frame. The other setting I use frequently on auto is the ISO setting, but recently, I even keep that on 100 and pop on a flash head on, of which I have several awesome ones taht can bounce till hell won't have it or go dual in the case of my old Metz hammer head units.
So you get full frame, rugged Nikon reliability&compatibility with the latest digital Nikon SLRs and your old Nikon film cameras, if you're into that like I am.
And no, I know this sounds like a paid endorsement, but it isn't, nor is it a commercial and I'm not getting paid, lol.
